KINSEY ARCHITECTURE
|
The imagery of this residence is that of an old western town, with false store fronts, which make the simple construction appear to be much grander than it actually is. The dominant theme in southwest architecture is the heavy massing of ancient Indian pueblos. However a largely overlooked and more recent precedent, is the uniquely American architecture of the western cowboy towns. Sprung, seemly overnight from the dusty ground, constructed simply with boardwalks and covered porches. The residence is not a literal copy, as no good architecture should be, but a contemporary reinterpretation. It is why, however modern this house is, it is somehow familiar and pleasing to the eye.
