The steep mountainous site created a number of challenges for access and the siting of the house. Additional constraints were county height limitations and a program that included a 5,500 sq.ft pitched roof house with limited allowable building area. The solution dictated a long linear plan that steeped down the mountain with the garage and game room on a lower level, bermed into the mountain. This allowed the rest of the living spaces to be located on the upper level for light, views, and ventilation. Amazingly, all of the square footage was able to be under one pitched roof without violating the height limitations. The grand entry is approached by ascending a large split exterior stair case under a heavy timber vaulted porch. Once past the front doors, the foyer opens into the central living space with vaulted heavy timber ceilings, stone fireplace, and a wall of glass with a direct view to the Santa Fe Ski basin.

The architectural style of this residence rely's on pitched roofed mountain forms with heavy timber construction and exposed rock fireplaces. There is a solidity and permanence to this home which is anchored into its mountainous site. Additionally, there is a 1,800 sq.ft. detached guest house with a five car garage adjacent to the main house.
